Volvo Cars has partnered with and invested in Breathe Battery Technologies and will be the first carmaker with access to its patented algorithm-enabled charging software for its next-generation electric vehicles.
Volvo says that by integrating the technology, it will enable up to 30% faster charging rates from 10 to 80 percent charge while maintaining the same energy density and range.
Unlike traditional stepped charging with pre-determined rules, Breathe’s software uses adaptive charging to dynamically control the pack’s charge in real time, while avoiding the risk of lithium plating.
