Magna’s new 800V eDrive is based on a KPI-driven generation approach and can be applied as a highly efficient primary or complementary drive with optional eDecoupling to battery electric vehicles from the C, D, and E segments.
Designed as a drop-in solution, the eDrive generation incorporates several new advanced technologies to offer significant reductions in weight and size compared to the current generation.
One industry-first advancement is the ability to rotate the eDrive 90° around the drive axis, improving system integration by allowing the same eDrive to be used at both the front and rear of the vehicle. Another new to-market technology is Magna’s next-gen High-Voltage Embedding SiC power module with fewer parts and interfaces creating higher efficiency.
Weighing only 75 kg and with a 29% reduction in z dimension, it allows for easier integration into the rear and front vehicle space. The system achieves more than 93% efficiency in real-world driving (including WLTC and highway) by leveraging its highly efficient gearbox. This significantly improves efficiency across a wide range of vehicle speeds, making it more versatile. To increase flexibility eDrives can also be equipped with eDecoupling and park lock.
Magna’s new eDrives exhibit enhanced product and production sustainability, as well as improved system integration. They require less aluminum and rare earth materials, reducing CO2 emissions during production by approximately 20 %.
