ENNOVI has launched the ENNOVI-CellConnect-Pouch, tailored for battery manufacturers who prefer the pouch cell form factor.
The ENNOVI-CellConnect-Pouch system is designed to reduce costs and manufacturing time while providing protection against thermal runaway through advanced lamination and FDC technologies. The company reports that the system’s design eliminates the need for traditional plastic cell carriers, typically made from glass-reinforced plastic. This removal also does away with carrier storage, molding lines, and the heat staking process.
ENNOVI’s advanced lamination technology is said to ensure the structural integrity and durability of the battery pack. By utilizing flexible die-cut circuit (FDC) technology for low voltage signal traces instead of conventional flexible printed circuits (FPC), the company reports a reduction in production time and costs, alongside a minimized environmental impact.
The system features:
+ An upper dielectric layer incorporating FDC copper traces.
+ A lower layer pre-cut to the shape of the current collectors.
+ Both layers made of automotive-grade PI or PET material, known for electrical insulation and temperature stability.
+ Built-in fuse traces or surface mount fuses and NTC temperature sensors layered between the two laminated layers, streamlining material usage and creating a thin design.
+ A design that aids in mitigating battery thermal runaway by achieving a fast exhaust release time.
