FLO, a smart charging provider, is set to increase the number of electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.
The center, known for hand-building the Cadillac Celestiq luxury sedan EV, will now feature more of FLO’s workplace EV chargers than any other single location in the USA or Canada. The EV chargers, built at FLO’s plant in Auburn, Michigan, are designed to be durable and weather-proof. With the new installation, over 1,200 individual EV chargers from FLO are now operational at various GM sites in North America.
The electricity used to charge GM employees’ electric vehicles at their workplace is supplied by MIGreenPower, drawing from Michigan-made wind and solar energy. The partnership between General Motors and FLO began in early 2022 with the installation of both Level 2 and DC fast chargers at 120 GM facilities. The initial batch consisted of 350 EV chargers in total, installed at office buildings, manufacturing plants, and fulfillment centers.
In the summer of 2023, FLO, along with another charging company, EVgo, announced plans to begin using North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors in its charging network. General Motors also plans to build all its EVs with NACS connectors by 2025, supplying the vehicles with an adapter in the meantime to broaden network availability for drivers.
