StoreDot releases battery data from freezing temperature tests

StoreDot, a battery maker focused on silicon-dominant extreme fast charging (XFC) electric vehicles (EVs), has released the test data for their cells in winter conditions.

The lab tests demonstrated that StoreDot’s silicon battery cells can reach 80% capacity when charged at -10°C with standard charging speed. The cells have shown a consistent discharge rate and an adequate driving range, even in sub-freezing conditions. At a temperature of 14°F (-10°C), the cells delivered over 85% of their full range capacity. Even at -4°F (-20°C), the cells still provided over 70% of their full range capacity.

StoreDot has mentioned that their XFC cells, compared to traditional EV batteries, have higher energy storage capacity, faster charging speeds, and longer lifetimes. This makes them future-proof and ensures optimal performance year-round, regardless of the climate.

StoreDot has recently shared its anticipated milestones for 2024. These include the demonstration of the world’s first EV pack equipped with XFC technology, shipping prismatic B-samples to OEMs, and expanding operations in the US on the path toward commercialization. The company is on track with the production-readiness of XFC cells that can deliver 100 miles charged in 5 minutes this year. The company aims to achieve 100 miles charged in 4 minutes in 2026 and 100 miles charged in 3 minutes by 2028.

The company mentioned they’ve revolutionized the conventional Li-ion battery by innovating and synthesizing proprietary organic and inorganic compounds, optimized by Artificial Intelligence algorithms. This enables the charging of an EV in under 10 minutes. Through its ‘100inX’ product roadmap, StoreDot’s battery technology is delivering ‘Range on Demand™’: 100 miles charged in 5 minutes in 2024, 100 miles charged in 4 minutes in 2026, and 100 miles charged in 3 minutes by 2028.
