CustomCells, a battery maker spun off from The Fraunhofer Institute, has inaugurated its new headquarters in Itzehoe. The new facility will serve as an innovative research center, focusing on the development of customized battery cells.
The 10,000 square meter+ facility is powered entirely by renewable energy sources and includes electric vehicle charging stations.
The company has ordered a state-of-the-art extruder machine for global battery production and announced plans to expand the acquired property by an additional 5,749 square meters over the next five years.
CustomCells mentioned they are developing innovative battery cells that increase energy and power density by more than ten times compared to conventional batteries through the booster process of prelithiation.
CustomCells has completed more than 2,000 projects for over 500 clients since its inception and manufactured more than 620,000 meters of electrodes in Itzehoe alone. Over the past five years, CustomCells has tripled its revenue and consistently posted profits, they’ve also received over 75 million euros from notable investors including Porsche AG, VSquared Ventures, the World Fund, Primepulse, 468 Capital, the Abacon Family Office, and international technology investors.
