Accelera, the zero-emissions business segment of Cummins Inc., Daimler Trucks & Buses, and PACCAR announced their battery cell manufacturing will happen in Marshall County, Mississippi, as part of their upcoming joint venture to localize cell production for the commercial electric segment.
The 21-gigawatt hour (GWh) factory is projected to commence battery cell production in 2027, and will potentially create over 2,000 US manufacturing jobs.
The companies will focus on lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology, with each company holding a 30% stake in the business. EVE Energy, a manufacturer of LFP battery cells, will serve as the technology partner in the joint venture with 10% ownership, contributing its battery cell design and manufacturing expertise to the future cell manufacturing plant.
